John Cowlbeck, a Bedford native, is a self taught artist with a passion for nature that is evident in each of his creations. John uses mostly natural materials for his sculptures and has sculptured pieces as large as a six foot piece of mesquite while living in California.
The Wharton Memorial Foundation Bower Center for the Arts is a non-profit organization located in historic downtown Bedford,Va. at the base of the beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains. The Bower Center serves the greater Bedford community by promoting artistic and cultural activities and provides education in the arts. In addition the Wharton Memorial Foundation preserves two historical Virgina landmarks and maintains the Wharton Memorial Garden.
